I am enormously proud to be the Headteacher at Birley Primary Academy. We are a mainstream three-form primary school – situated in south-east Sheffield – that is committed to inclusive education and meeting the needs of all the children in our care.
We are a happy and positive educational setting where diversity is truly celebrated. This school is a special place where we are very ambitious for all of our pupils. We have a team of talented, hardworking and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for all children.

We offer flexible wraparound care to support families and provide a safe, welcoming environment for children before and after the school day. Our breakfast and after-school clubs are run by experienced staff and open to all pupils.
We were thrilled to welcome local artist Pete McKee to Birley Primary Academy where he spent time with pupils across the school to explore his iconic style and inspire their own creativity and works of art.
At Birley Primary Academy our main hall and dining room are available for hire throughout the year.
📚✨ National Read a Book Day! ✨📚
On Friday, we acknowledged and celebrated National Read a Book Day (which is actually today!) at Birley, and what a fantastic opportunity it was to celebrate one of our favourite things… reading! ❤️📖
Throughout the day, our children had the chance to talk about the importance of reading, and discuss that wonderful feeling when you finally find a book that you just can’t put down! 😍
Our teachers also shared extracts from some of their favourite children's books, asked the children for their own recommendations and, most importantly, gave them time to simply read for enjoyment. 📚💭
There were also lots of fun activities linked to books and reading, giving our children the opportunity to celebrate stories, characters and authors in different ways.

It has been a fantastic first couple of days back at Birley, and it has been wonderful to see our children so excited about some of the changes around our school environment.
From freshly painted areas and new flooring to bright, eye-catching displays, there has been plenty for our pupils to explore. But one area in particular has captured their imagination…
🌲📖 Our brand new Birley Book Woods! 📖🌲
Located at the bottom of our Year 3 staircase, this fantastic new reading space has already become a firm favourite with the children. We think it looks absolutely fantastic and, more importantly, we hope it inspires even more of our pupils to pick up a book, get comfortable and lose themselves in a story. ❤️📚
A huge thank you to our incredibly talented Site Manager for bringing the idea to life, with a little help from our brand new 3D printer! 🖨️🌳
