I am enormously proud to be the Headteacher at Birley Primary Academy. We are a mainstream three-form primary school – situated in south-east Sheffield – that is committed to inclusive education and meeting the needs of all the children in our care.
We are a happy and positive educational setting where diversity is truly celebrated. This school is a special place where we are very ambitious for all of our pupils. We have a team of talented, hardworking and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for all children.

Led by experienced early years teaching assistants who will help to develop your child’s communication, language and social skills.
We offer flexible wraparound care to support families and provide a safe, welcoming environment for children before and after the school day. Our breakfast and after-school clubs are run by experienced staff and open to all pupils.
We were thrilled to welcome local artist Pete McKee to Birley Primary Academy where he spent time with pupils across the school to explore his iconic style and inspire their own creativity and works of art.
At Birley Primary Academy our main hall and dining room are available for hire throughout the year.
Over the summer, we have fully restocked our Reading Vending Machine with lots of exciting new books! 📖🎉
These are fantastic prizes for the winners of our monthly Reading Token Draw, held during our Sparkle and Shine Celebration Assembly.
So, how can your child get a chance to win? 🎟️
Children who read 3 or more times a week at home, recorded in their Home-School Reading Diary, receive a weekly ticket for our Grand Prize Draw.
Each month, 4 lucky winners are drawn and receive a special token to choose a book from our Reading Vending Machine! 📚🏆
The aim is simple — to encourage regular reading at home and help our children develop a love of books and reading. ❤️

📚✨ National Read a Book Day! ✨📚
On Friday, we acknowledged and celebrated National Read a Book Day (which is actually today!) at Birley, and what a fantastic opportunity it was to celebrate one of our favourite things… reading! ❤️📖
Throughout the day, our children had the chance to talk about the importance of reading, and discuss that wonderful feeling when you finally find a book that you just can’t put down! 😍
Our teachers also shared extracts from some of their favourite children's books, asked the children for their own recommendations and, most importantly, gave them time to simply read for enjoyment. 📚💭
There were also lots of fun activities linked to books and reading, giving our children the opportunity to celebrate stories, characters and authors in different ways.
We'd love our families to get involved in this special day as well! In the comments, tell us about your family's favourite books, characters, authors or even your favourite places to read.
