I am enormously proud to be the Headteacher at Birley Primary Academy. We are a mainstream three-form primary school – situated in south-east Sheffield – that is committed to inclusive education and meeting the needs of all the children in our care.
We are a happy and positive educational setting where diversity is truly celebrated. This school is a special place where we are very ambitious for all of our pupils. We have a team of talented, hardworking and committed staff who are dedicated to doing the very best for all children.

Children will enjoy play-based learning in a structured, safe environment with a specially designed curriculum themed around the beauty and wonder of the seasons.
Led by experienced early years teaching assistants who will help to develop your child’s communication, language and social skills.
We offer flexible wraparound care to support families and provide a safe, welcoming environment for children before and after the school day. Our breakfast and after-school clubs are run by experienced staff and open to all pupils.
We were thrilled to welcome local artist Pete McKee to Birley Primary Academy where he spent time with pupils across the school to explore his iconic style and inspire their own creativity and works of art.
At Birley Primary Academy our main hall and dining room are available for hire throughout the year.
What a fantastic start to the year for our School Council! Our first meeting was a great opportunity for our young people to come together, share their ideas and start thinking about how they can make a positive difference across our academy during the course of the 2026-27 academic year.
We discussed our plans and priorities for the year ahead, including some exciting ideas that the children would like to work on. They also had the important job of helping to make some menu choices for special meals throughout the year – a responsibility they took very seriously!
We also talked about some important meetings coming up, including meetings with our local councillor and Sheffield City Council, where we will be discussing parking and traffic around the academy and considering how we can continue to make the area safer and more accessible for our school community.
It was wonderful to hear so many thoughtful ideas and see the enthusiasm our School Council members have for making a difference. What an amazing group of young people! Mrs McAughey can't wait to work with you all this year, listen to your ideas and see the positive changes you help to bring about as we continue to improve our wonderful school. 💫

Congratulations to the recipients of our learning awards in last week's Sparkle and Shine assembly! You have all been amazing and should be proud of your accomplishments in the early stages of this academic year. Our winners were:-

The children really enjoyed their hot chocolate, whipped cream and marshmallows whilst discussing their amazing learning. ☕

🌍♻️ RECYCLE WEEK 2026 – CREATIVE COMPETITION! ♻️🌍
We’re excited to be celebrating Recycle Week 2026 at Birley Primary Academy! 💚
Throughout the week, we’ll be thinking about how we can reduce waste, reuse materials and recycle effectively to help look after our planet. 🌱🌎
To kick off our week, we’re setting our pupils a creative recycling challenge! 🎨✨
🏆 THE CHALLENGE:
We want our children to use their imagination and creativity to turn everyday recyclable materials into something amazing!
It could be a toy, a piece of artwork, a sculpture, or something completely original – the choice is theirs! 🤩
♻️ The only rule? Get creative using things that might otherwise have been thrown away!
We’ll be looking for originality, creativity and clever use of recyclable materials. 🏆👏
